In this respect it joins s 75,,70, 80 , 90 et al. Only two minor key symphonies folloe ir: 83 in G Minor and 95 in C Minor. Much of the stormy not-over-yet sturm and drang atmossphere erupts here.
The first movement especially more than hints at Mozart's big C Minor works, e. Orpheus emphasize its tension and darkness which is not all pervasive-more light appears in the final two movements. As usual they play beautifully and lean into the chromaticism without pedantry. Orpheus is very good in no tempi or ensemble issues, but I would like a grander approach which would do more justice to its stature. Compare for example Jochum's first movement intro, the second movement and the the third movement trio.
